LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - According to its website, St. Mary's University will name one of their buildings the Benedict XVI Centre for Religion and Society.
The Centre will address economics, sociology and political sciences, with Dr. Stephen Bullivant, a contributing editor at the Catholic Herald, as its director.
St. Mary's claimed the name was approved by the Vatican's Secretariat of State and was "founded upon the conviction that interdisciplinary research, in which the sciences are brought into direct engagement with theology and ethics, is central to the life of a Catholic university."The Centre was erected in 2015 to commemorate the fifth anniversary of Pope Benedict XVI's visit to the University.
"Major publications, media activity, regular events and attracting research students" are listed among St. Mary's goals for the Centre, which school officials believe will help "make a major contribution to academic, ecclesial, and public debates concerning the place of religion (and nonreligion) within contemporary societies."
One of the beautifully built building's first order of business will include a 50th anniversary celebration for Paul VI's encyclical Humanae Vitae.

Information concerning other projects have yet to be announced.
